Design
The Aichi E13A was designed to fill a 1937 specification for a replacement for the Kawanishi E7K2.1
Anti-Submarine
Some E13s were fitted with magnetic anomaly detection (MAD) equipment to help find submarines.1
Prototype
The E13A prototype first flew in late 1938.1

Usage
In early 1941 the E13A entered service.1,2 The E13A was also used for rescue, transport, and attack.2
The Aichi E13A was used on Cruisers and flying boat tenders.1 The E13A1 was on a battleship, twelve cruisers, and four support ships.2
Pearl Harbor
The E13A was used in the reconnaissance of Pearl Harbor right before the attack.1
Campaigns
The Aichi E13A was used in the Coral Sea, Midway, and Solomon Island campaigns.1
France
The French Navy used one Aichi E13A after World War II in Indo-China.1
